Our Mission
The Queen Anne’s County Housing Authority is committed to providing safe, decent, and affordable housing opportunities for low-income, very low-income, and extremely low-income individuals and families throughout Queen Anne’s County. Over the next five years, we will work to expand housing access, support residents in achieving greater economic self-sufficiency, and foster inclusive, thriving communities free from discrimination.
About Us
The Housing Authority (HA) of Queen Anne’s County serves its residents and the general public by providing rental housing opportunities to low-income individuals and families. These rental opportunities provide those in need a safe and stable place to live while working towards an overall goal of eventual financial independence. In conjunction with this, several of the facilities operated by the HA provide independent living units for individuals aged 62 and older and are linked to senior centers run by the County. A limited number of rental homes across the County (known as Scattered Sites) are also managed by the HA, and we work with many partners in the local housing environment to ensure low- and moderate-income residential units are available for rent within Queen Anne’s County.
Working closely with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Housing Authority complies with all laws, regulations, and ordinances it is subject to. Our work with HUD allows us to provide additional housing in the form of vouchers. These vouchers give residents access to housing opportunities outside of the five facilities and Scattered Sites and are managed via waitlist by the Housing Authority, separated by type of voucher. Housing options in QAC are limited, and the Housing Authority does all it can to help tenants secure safe, affordable, and well-maintained rental housing.
Our History
The Housing Authority of Queen Anne’s County has been through many changes over its long history. Beginning in 1988, the Public Housing Authority was created as a five-member commission, which arose from a requirement to receive grant funding for housing at the time. This grant was used to build the Fisher Manor housing complex for the residents of the Kent Narrows shanty town, who were being evicted due to a change in ownership of the nearby factory property. The local community was outraged at the eviction, and the Fisher Manor provided the displaced families with shelter, running water, and consistent electricity. What started as a necessity for the people of the Narrows has become a well ingrained addition to the County, providing its services for the past forty years.
On March 4th, 2024, the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners passed a resolution to partner with Queen Anne’s County Government, providing it the authority to operate as its official management agency. This partnership begins a new chapter in the management and operation of the Housing Authority, grounded in shared commitment, leadership, and vision for the future of housing in the community.
