Roger L. Harrell, MHA
Roger L. Harrell, MHA, recently retired after serving as Health Officer for Dorchester County, Maryland. He first assumed the role in 1997 and led the county’s public health efforts through both routine and crisis periods, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Harrell earned his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed his Master’s in Hospital Administration at the Medical College of Virginia. Beyond Dorchester, he held leadership roles in statewide public health organizations, including serving as Secretary/Treasurer of the Maryland Association of County Health Officers (MACHO). A long-time resident of Queen Anne’s County, Harrell has been deeply involved in local volunteer efforts both before and after his retirement. Most recently, he became a member of the Queen Anne’s County Local Management Board. He also continues to serve on community boards such as the Eastern Shore Area Health Education Center and Rotary District 7630, and has been recognized for his leadership, mentorship, and lifelong commitment to public service.
